Gustave Hinrichs conducted the Theodore Thomas Orchestera Wed. night at Ravinia Park in place of Chevalier Emanuel, who was ill. He made some very positve comments about the park. Last year, Ravinia began presenting condensed versions of opera every evening for six weeks in conjuction with orchestral music. Wed. evening American soprano, Edna Darch sang the lead role in Massanet's Oriental opera "Thais". She was recently hired to perform with Mr. Dippel's Chicago Opera Company. Other singers were baritone, Louis Kriedler, who played Athanael, contralto Frances Ingram, who played Albine and Henri Baron. Franz Enser was the concert master and played a violon solo in the Meditation. The orchestral performance that followed the opera consisted of: "The Bartered Bride", by Smetana, "The Danse Macabre" by Saint-Saens, a march by Kretzschmar and "New Vienna Waltz" by Strauss.
