Edwin F. Whiteside, Wilmette policeman for 31 years and chief for 19, died Monday, January 29, 1979) at Skokie Valley Community Hospital at the age of 70. Born in ATlanta, Ga. His wife, Mary, died July 24, 1978. The couple was married in 1932. His only daughter, June Vivian Harrington, also preceded him in death. He is survived by three grandchildren, Kathleen Skender, Sheila Millette and Michael Harrington; two great grandsons; a brother, Oscar; and a son-in-law, Thomas Harrington of Glen Ellyn. He had lived at 3110 Lake Ave. for 40 years.
