All of them ask: "Is this as far as it is intended to go, or is it proposed to include all the business sections of the city?" It is hard for any one individual to answer this question authorita- tively, but the ways and means com- mittee of the Evanston Commercial association would doubtless say that it is proposed to light, first the Davis street business section, including Davis street from the Northwestern university business office, as far west as business houses to go west of the tracks, and then north and south on Orrington avenue and Sherman ave- nue, at least one and possibly two blocks. This committee, of which W. M. Colwel!, the Davis street druggist, is chairman, has been working over- time on the problem and are achiev- ing notable success. The work which this committee is doing was all sup- plemented by nearly two years' very hard painstaking educational work done by a previous Commercial asso- ciation committee, headed by Mr. C. advocated; TO. 8tevens, cashier of the City Na- tional bank. Mr. Colwell's commit- tee proposes to have at least fifty lights installed in the Davis street section by the middle of July, or the first of August at the least This means a lot more of the same kind of hard rapid work that has al- ready been done by the committee. Much of the business property in Hv- anston is owned by estates and front- age consents to assume the respon- sibility of the installation of the posts is in these instances more difficult to heaviest. one that has been dealt to get then where the landlord is an in a speeder this year. The jurist says that those exceeding the limt will re- ceive no leniency from this time on but will be given Keavy fines. "It cost Reford a dollar a mile, and if the autoists persist in speeding the fines will be raised to two dollars a mile and, If necessary, they will be fined the limit," said Magistrate Boyer. For some time the News has been advocating that all speeders be fined heavy and the ease Saturday shows that the local authorities see the wisdom of the plan. The judges all over Cook cbnnty are now giving big fines to motorists who exceed the speed limit C. S. Judson, of Racine, Wis., was arrested Friday afternoon for speeding. .He was traveling just over the speed limit. Magistrate Boyer fined him S10 and costs. One Piece Whera Llvlna la Cheee. The posts which have been In- stalled have been furnished by the George Cutter company of South Bend, Ind., and the installation work has been done by the Standard Street Lighting company of Chicago. The post is known as tbe Commonwealth Edison post No. 3604. While the posts accentuates the narrow walks on all business streets, they are, all agree, a decided im- provement to the street and will, it Is believed and hoped, make ell of the business sections where the lights are installed a promenade used by all classes of people, and especially the better class who heretofore have not liked to walk on business streets which were not fully lighted and where there might therefore be a small risk, at least of unpleasant en- "Time to 40 wfHr To tiY<m,tn*t »t*« To slpeaK that Mud word That may wWeeten aome sorrdWi *w To do now the good ; - -^ ' »3 $j You would-leave (XR tfctoorrbw.* â- •**'! on tion of posts is of a more or lees re- volutionary idea and where the edu- cational work will nave to be done.
