WM W: M0: A BATHING ilAGtf Another summer has almost passed and the lake shore towns have no facilities for their citizens to use the lake ^r bathing. If the Lord ;would reach down and pick up the lake ancjjsjlt it down near Spring- field or over in Brown county, Indiana, it wou,ld serve this community right. We are the most blessed of men in having this great body of pleasure water shoved up under our noses. As individuals we are fool- ish to neglect it as we do and as a community we are selfishi in provid- ing no means by which our people can'use it without danger of being arrested. ♦ ♦ ♦ ♦ * HAY FEVER SEASON APPROACHES Within the next ten days the annual hegira of pur hay fever population will commence. Mid-August • .js> approaching with this perennial pest in its van. In a few days the sneezing will commence and the victims will either flee like a bird to the mountains or far northward to Mackinac and the islands of the straits. The hay fever "crop along the lake shore ought to be especially good this year for' the j?a|| weed is flourishing as never before. The vacant lots are rich with it and the embankment along the shore line has enough planted on its slopes to give every hay feverite an extra share. But these poisonous weeds are not partial in their action and the sufferer from asthma, head and throat troubles generally and various other ills suffers because of them. ♦ ♦ ♦ ♦ ♦ ^ LAKE SHORE BACHELORS Lake shore physicians sent a thrill of hope and life into the hearts of the old bachelors hereabouts Monday when they challenged the statement of Pb. Frederick Hoffman that any on% who married after thirty did so at their peril. It is a well known fact that while the old maid becomes content with her cat and her poodle dog, that the old bachelor never really gives up the idea of matrimony, With him tfo axiom is quite so dear as the one which declares that "while there's life there's hope." That is the reason why, as he trips down the street, he seems surrounded by an atmosphere of lightheaded- ness. He is so elegant, so debonair, so all to the good, and appreciat- ing tbis himself to the full, he is sure some maiden fair will pluck him almost any day. To him Dr. Hoffman is an iconoclast, an anarchist, a dawplucker. ♦ ♦ ♦ ♦ ♦ THE EVANSTON PLAYERS * : The Evanston theater has a host of friends along the lake shore and wften it opens its doors next Saturday there will be a goodly number to welcome back the old favorites and make the acquaintance of the new members of the company. This playhouse was responsible last winter for A very large measure of enjoyment to our citizens and at the out- let we join with them in wishing it a prosperous and happy season. It is7 a fine thing that the stock company is to be continued. Once he and other Bible students, confused with the errors of the Dark Ages, thought of man as a spirit being Inhabiting a body of flesh, coming into It at birth and departing from it at death. Bible study is rapidly driving away that, error. The Bible clearly tells that the genu* homo is an animal being, of the earth earthy--not a heav- enly or spirit being. This is in har- mony with what science has been tettV lag us--that which we could not re- ceive until we found It to be the Mes- sage of God. The Bible does not place man upon an equality witti the brntev but far above. His superiority is that of form and species. 'His larger brain and its better shape than that of thS- brutes indicate his knowledge and in- tellectual superiority over them. He is to them God's representative-their king, created in the moral image and likeness of bis Creator. The fact that man dies has led some to the conclusion that he is a spirit be- ing and at death merely finds release from his body of flesh and soars back again to a spirit condition in which he once was. How inconsistent! How il- logical! The Bible tells, on the con' trary* that God made man as He de- sired to have bimr-adapted exactly to the conditions provided for bim-- an earthly Eden, Paradise. The Bible tells that God proposed to him ever- lasting life as a man on condition of continued obedience. It explains that dying Is not going home, nor going to eternal torment, but ceasing to be. "Joy In the Ifarkuiijjp - This penalty passed upon'-Father Adam--be lost the right to lire and fell under the sentence, "Dying, thou ■halt die;" "In the sweat of thy face ■halt thou eat bread until tbon return unto the ground from which thou wast taken.** (Genesis Hi. i&A The fallen, death-sentenced Adam could' not give to his children rights Which he had lost.
