^^PWWW^IWT THE LAKE SHORE NEWS, FRIDAY, JUNE 3, 1921 NOT very much effort has been spent to defend the candidates on the Thomp- son ticket from the charge of too great sen- sitiveness to the controlling touch of the hand that guides the Chicago Republican organi- zation. Except for a counter-charge that the men who are standing for election on the coalition ticket are under the influence of a "commercialized press/' there has been no attempt made to clear the Republican can- didates of the accusation of being merely the agents of the powers that be in the city gov- ernment. Perhaps there is no defence to offer, perhaps they are so sure of the indif- ference of that portion of the public that should care for the character of the judiciary that it seems not to be worth the trouble to make any excuse or to plead misrepresen- tation by their enemies. Whatever may be the reason, the obligation upon the electorate of the North Shore is the same, to do their utmost to defeat the candidates on the Thompson ticket. With the courts in control of the party or- ganization there would be no chance of se- curing justice for the people of the district subject to taxation for funds to be dispensed by the ring of party leaders. Voters who wish to keep this protection against ex- ploitation have their best opportunity in the occasion of the judicial election. It is an oc- casion that will not be neglected by those who care for the future of the city and wish to offer what protest they may against the whole program of the city hall group in Chi- cago politics.
