mmm THE LAKE SHORE NEWS, FRIDAY, JULY 29, 1921 TENTH INNING RALLY WINS FOR PIONEERS Borre, Kelly and Walsh Loom Prom- inently With Stick-work: Strem- mel Strikes Out Eleven Hammond Batsmen Sunday, July 31, at 3 o'clock the Evanston Boosters, colored, will play a return engagement with the New Trier Pioneer's at the bali park in Lake avenue, just west of the Ridge. The last time these teams met, the Boosters caught at Pioneer's off their stride, and smashed the hall to all corners of the park, handing the Pioneer's fine little wallop that still hurts. The Pioneer's have donned their war paint for this game, and promise to poss out a series of jolts, with the Boosters on the receiving end, while the Boosters in turn have quietly strengthened their team with Texas and Kennet, a battery from one of the three best colored teams in Chicago. For the Pioneer's, Phil Stremmel will pitch, and Dave Wallace will catch. Until recently, Stremmel pitched for the Michigan City team, beating the Union Giants, a strong colored team, and Waukegan. Last Sunday he earned consider- able local favor by pitching a mas- terly game against the Hammond, Ind. team beating them 3 to 2 in ten innings. As this was but the second defeat the Hammond's- have suffered this year, Stremmel is en- titled to considerable credit for this work. The Pioneers lost the valuable service of- Bobby Meager who was carried off the field on the Ham- mond game when he sustained a broken ankle in sliding into second base. He will be out for the bal- ance of the season____________ Club, Nick Wagner, manager of the aggregation, and Jim Dean, star out- fielder and captain. These men work ed diligently to bring a star ball club to this vicinity, have been in- strumental 'in having the Lake ave- nue diamond put into excellent «hape and generally attending to the com- forts of the loyal fans. The reward of their efforts was seen last Sunday when nearly 1,000 spectators turned out for the Hammond game.
