«iwihspw-ww^i'.ii«j»ww THE LAKE SHORE NEWS, FRIDAY, AUGUST 5, 1921 11 ,JS CITIES LEAD COUNTRY IN HEALTH I. , Association Lnd.r Explod.s lAiieUn* Theory *<* Farmwrt If HotJtMw than City Cousins By H. K. Reynolds your Hihington. â€" Don't send *««* Kin to the country if you want 'J; t0 be Itealthv â€" citiei now pro- .' »hf» most virile men. rj^,^ Dr. Hubert Work, First litant , Postmaster - General and Jlv elected president of the Amerj- EMecVical Association, explode the fnhioned theory that the greater Ince for health prevails among the L fields,' the waving corn fields Fthe wooded hills of the rural dis- L than on the asphalt pavements crushed rock playgrounds of the city. js not that the strenuous and etimes endless tasks of life on the arc not just as healthful as they were, but, says Dr. Work: Improved Living Conditions rhe city affords more sanitary liv- comlitions than the country, and pointed out that there are three tmet reasons why city boys have a ter chance for health than the ntry boy: In the first place, the living condi- s are more sanitary, medical at- tion is more prompt, and there greater medical facilities. Those fte three reasons." ..*ke<I if the dirt and noise of tlie tigs American city afforded great- onportunities for health than the al community, with its fresh air, xl food and other advantages, Dr. irk said: Stnristtesâ€"showâ€""thatâ€"there is a ater proportion of healthy boys onjjf the city groups-tHan^lhe-coun- ones. "'•. There are more doctorj_Jn_prop.or.- to population in the city than_in- arm'community. Tfiere are 140,000 jjors in the United States, atid over f of them are city physicians. This ins that it is harder to get a doctor he country. The farms are usually etisivc, and the doctor must lose time in getting about. Hospitalisation Factor In the city there is a doctor con- sent in almost every neighbor- kI. and the sick child may receive mtion without"delay. xitnity enables him to keep the Id under close observation. The intry doctor may be just as effici- und scientific; his education is doubt practically the same, but he ks the facilities of the city physi- n. • , That leads me to the third reason city boy is healthier. There are atcr hospital facilities here. And children receive medical attention 'ii in the public schools. Their uths are clean. The attention giv- their teeth by the dentists of the obi authorities is admirable. It st he realized that there is no more >ortniit item of good health than a an set of teeth to masticate the d. Hospitalization is another matter t cannot be overestimated. Many :tors have learned there is no bet- place to work and are prompt in rising patients to avail themselves their facilities. But here again the intry hook lacks." )r. Work believes that much of the vement from the country to the y can be attributed to mothers who lize that their children will be ilthier in an urban community.
