The greens were surrounded with a large gallerv of enthusiasts. The Woman's Western golf championship which was played at Westmoreland last week was won by Mrs. Melvin Jones of Olympia Fields. The hard fought match ended with the score at 6 and 4, Mrs. J. W. Douglass of Westmoreland being run- r The Illinois State Tennis Championships were finished at Sko- kie on Sunday. Walter Hayes and Clifford Herd won the men s doubles, while Hayes defeated Herd in the men's singles. Jack Houston, Skokie, knocked on the door of the Hall of Fame last Saturday, when he made the second hole in one stroke. This hole is 145 yards long and par is three. The feat of holing out in one is still enough of a novelty to entitle the player to Congratulations. ^ Miss Mercedes Bush, of Westmore- land is defending her title this week of Western Junior Woman's golf champion at Skokie. Miss Bush came through the preliminary rounds in fine style although the competition was-very keen. Winnetka Playfield association of- fers the second round of the Martin Challenge cub and the qualifying round of the September class tour- nament for Saturday and Sunday. Sixteen will qualify in the Class tour- nament. The holiday program includes a ball sweepstakes, with a twenty- five cent entry fee, and a blind bogey event. Bob O'Link will hold the first rouncl of the Lueian M. Williams trohpy on Saturday and the second round of the same tournament on Labor Day. Both rounds will be over eighteen holes with a three-ouarters handicap. There will be a blind bogey event o Saturday and other special events on Monday. North Shore Golf club schedules the semi-finals of the President's trophv for Saturday; four entrants are left for this round. The qualifying round for the special Labor Day contest must be played on Saturday or by 1 P. M. on Sunday. Qualifying round for the championship medals will be played on the next Saturdayâ€"all play to be from scratch. Skokie has instituted a system of tennis ranking with class divisions for the members of the club who play on the courts. A club tournament in the different classes will be started soon. H. R. Walton and K. D. Steere witt-play-hr-Hre finals of the~€hrf Championship tournament on batur day. Both men won hard fought matches last Saturday. A handicap event with .prizes for three classes will be played in the afternoon of the same day. A one day tournament will be played on Labor Day with prizes for the winners of the after- noon foursomes. In addition to the Labor Day play, there will be a wealth of match play events on Saturday. The final round of the Angus cup will be played in addition to the secpnd round of the Club Championship and the Class Championships. The weekly fellow- ship cup is offered again.
