The public library is supported by taxes. A very small portion of every dollar in taxes goes to the public library- A public library is always a children's library. Always more of the users of library books are chil- dren. Adults come second every time. Therefore, there is almost always a need for children's books. And the children must have books. How else can growing lives be fed with infor- mation and stimulation? The President of our Library Board asks for money and books. Since he also is superintendent of our ^ehoelsr-nene-knows-^ettei- -paii-of-^^va-boot^ CHURCH ADVERTISING There was a time, and that not very long ago, when it was regarded as profane for a church to advertise; when a notice in the newspaper that the Reverend t>r. Black was on the following Sunday to speak on salva- Ltiorf was held to be playing into the hands of the Adversary. i^When some young business man HspokeTight up in meeting" and volun- teered the idea that attendance at the Sunday evening services might be in- creased by advertising the program in the local journal, good people were shocked by his worldly temerity. "Why it would be just like advertis- ing that religion was for sale!" But finally some one of the churches in the neighborhood did advertiseâ€" _anxL paid for space at the regular rates. Sunday evening audiences at this church increased, and with the increase in attendance came improve- ments in the program. Nothing dis- astrous happened. Quite-the-contrary' The young people of the town be pubhe- than he that in the schools the chil dren are urged to read. Everybody knows that more reading more books----------------------------- Perhaps in the future tax money can be so distribufea~tnat our public libraries will have more funds with which to meet demands. But until that time they will have to depend on individuals for money and books to meet these extra demands. Help the library to serve your children better. COMMUNITY DOLLAR DAY "Why not do business with your friends?" Why not, especially if your friends have stores only a few blocks from your home? Why not, especially if they sell ar- ticles of excellent quality at reason- able prices ? ^ -â€" There does seem to be something not quite intelligent about going a long distance to get something you want when you can get it near home. One can get exercise some more sensible way. What did you get last Tuesday or Wednesday for a dollar? Five pounds of prunes? A bungalow apron? Three cans of polish for your auto? A pair of Kayser silk gloves? Four dozen oranges? A Whatever you got, we hope that you got something better along with means I it. We hope that you found that (your community was a good place in which to trade. THE CHILDREN'S MOVIES The Children's Movies, temporarily interrupted, will, it is expected, be resumed soon. St. Augustine's parish is sponsoring these films and in help- ing to meet the necessary expenses has been a benefactor. But when the Chicago Board of Underwriters stated that the use of the Parish house con- stituted a serious fire hazard the Village Board acted wisely in stop- ping the exhibition. These pictures were selected es- ,„«; ,~«»6 v~v........._______ pecially to meet the interests of chil- gan going to this enterprising church ^iremâ€"They were-hrnneraery^opular; ------- ... Being both interesting and popular they offered a jyeryi satisfactory so- lution of movies for children, a prob- lem facing almost every American community. We understand that there are other auditoriums in Wilmette well-suited in every respect to the showing of moving pictures. Let-us resume them. The children need them. At exactly 8:15, he dropped his cap, which he had held in one hand, and a terrific roar answered the action, which was a signal. Up the trail from its position a couple of hundred yards away came a low- hung racing car.
