20 THE LAKE SHORE NEWS, FRIDAY. MARCH 9, 1923 heaven; is lecture topic Christian Scienci Lecturer Speaks Here Editor's Note:â€"Accompanying is an excerpt from a lecture delivered at First Church, of Christ, Scientist, Wil- mettc, Saturday evening, March 3, by C. W. Chadwick, C. S. B., member of the Board of Lectureship of The Mother Church, The First Church of Christ, Sci- entists, in Boston, Massachusetts, Old theology has had much to say about gfaing to heaven, but it has signally failed to provide humanity with any satisfac- tory explanation of heaven. The desig- nation of heaven as a far-distant abode where all good people are to congregate after the so-called death of the body, has failed to give satisfaction. The thought of doubt and the possibility, if not the probability, of finding the way to a place called by an entirely different name, has caused unfold suffering. There is nothing on earth that should interest us more than the experience of finding heaven. Whatever trouble we may experience, however heart-weary or sin-burdened we may be, our one and only remedy is the application of a right understanding of the kingdom of heaven. If we are in the depths of darkness, nothing short of the heavenly vision will dispell such darkness. Divine Love the Only Power If every Christian minister in our land would be sufficiently humble and loving to take Mrs. Eddy at her word, and be willing to accept on trust what he does not understand of the letter of Christian Science,, he would be in a position to comply with the Scriptural admonition, "Try the spirits whether they are of God." When the great Master declared, "All power is given unto me in heaven and in earth," did he not deny all supposed pow- er in evil? Could he have thought or acted from any other standpoint and suc- ceeded in glorifying the Father? M*» Eddy and Her Textbook It is a well-authenticated fact that Mary Baker Eddy is the Discoverer and Founder of Christian Science. No one familiar with her life and writings could or would attempt to deprive her of her fore the world to-day as a striking ex- ample of what could be and was accomp- lished by one lone, brave woman, who had the courage to leave all for Christ. A more unselfish or loving character never lived. She was indeed, to repeat the words of Longfellow, "a noble type of good heroic womanhood." If you would become acquainted with this grand Christian woman, whose no- bility of character and keenness of spirit- ual discernment lifted her thought into higher spiritual realms, we would com- mend the prayerful study of her won- derful book. "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures." There are books to read and there are books that must Tbe studied. Science and Health belongs exclusively to the latter class. â€"s:------Christian Science Healing ^There are grateful hearts in every part of the world who look up to Mrs. Eddy with joy and thanksgiving for the heal- ing that has come to them through her revelation of Truth to this age. Had Jesus admitted that rr&n is sick, or that there is a power capable of mak- ing him sick, he could not have fulfilled his mission of healing. It was his know- ledge or understanding of the reality and allness of good, of Life, Truth, and Love, that gave him power to heal both di- sease and sin. He did not even have to visit or to see his patient in order to heal him. Neither time nor distance influ- enced his healing prayer. J. E. Stevens On Radio Program Next Tuesday J. E.
