THE LAKE SHORE NEWS, FRIDAY, MARCH 16, 1923 POMANDER WALK HAS FINE 'SETS' High School Play Result of Diligent Work BY GEORGE MARTIN "Pomander Walk," to be given at the New Trier High school auditorium this Saturday, is characterized as a charming and whimsical comedy in three acts. The setting alone is said said to be worth the price of admis- |ion. Ji_Mi«s Grover and her assistants have worked long and diligently to achieve the desired effect, and the final result is all that could be wish- ed. Five little houses stand side by side, exactly alike, miniature copies of Queen Anne mansions, and each with its tiny garden. In front of the houses is a lawn„ in the center of Which is an elm, with a seat around it. Beyond this elm, at the Extreme left of the audience, is the gazebo, or summer-house, by the river. The Characters There you have "Pomander Walk." It is a community set apart from the rest of the world. It is sufficient unto itself, and it leads its own life. Each character is quaint and interesting. In Number One we find the crusty old Admiral, in Number Two is Mrs. Pos- kett, widow of Admiral Poskett. in Number Three are Brooke-Hoskyn, a man of fashion, and the little dried- up clergyman, in Number Four are the jPennymint sisters, old maids, and Bas- il Pringle, a poor violinist, and in Number Five are Marjolaine Laches- jnais and her mother. State bowling tournament at the Randolph Al- leys, Chicago. In the doubles, Golbach and Schwall rolled a total of 1131 pins. Tom Clark featured for Oujlmette council in the singles by achieving^ score ,of 608. No. 1 five-men team of the council rolled 2,581. Ouilmette council finished fifth in a large field of competi- tors. Only 3 Tuesday Dances Left in Present Season The Tuesday Community Dance Com- mittee announces the closing dance of the 1922-23 season for Tuesday evening, April 3. Three more dance evenings re- main in the present seasonâ€"-OMarch 20, March 27 and April 3-â€" The committee has "made the request that members indicate by their attendance at these final dances whether or not they desire to have the Community dances con- tinued next season.
