"Next Sunday will witness another of these simultan- eous movements when the church schools and the churches will observe Rally Day. "Rally Day is setinside as a <|ay of special effort. Each member of the Church Schools will invite the children of their neighborhood to attend the school ,of their choice; and each familv affiliated with the various churches will see-to it that there is no family in their block without an invitation. New Families so many new fanatHies Reach "There are so many new taratties in Wilmette, and the territory is such a vast one, that it is impossible for the ministers of the churches to find all the new-people and to extend to "them a per^ sonal invitation to attend the service of the day. This fact presents a splendid opportunity for neighborjiness and the expression of church loyalty on the part of the members of the church. Everybody Invited "Lest any family in the village should unintentionally be overlooked and not receive an invitatiqn, the ministers of the churches wislT to take the opportun- ity, presented1 to them through the col- umns-of The Lake Shore News, and ex- tend a most cordial invitation to attend the services on Sunday morning, and par- ticularly to invite the children to the church schools. It is' rather a difficult' task for the little folks to find their j&ay into a new church school, so nexlr Sun- day, plan to bring your child and at- tend the Church School; see that they become acquainted with some of the teachers and help them to get started in an association which will frrmg thrm 1 pleasure and profit for a long time: to comet- Hi your duties at hon^have mialle" it impossible for you to attend services in the past, accept this opportunity to serve by saying to your neighbor, 'Next Sunday is Rally Day and I want to in- vite you to attend our church.' - "There will be special music and special Rally Day services m aft uf^the"churches on Sunday morning. PHILBR1CK IS DEAN OF MEN AT PURPLE Because of the illness of Professor ..Robert E. WjteojnJ_jvho_was appointed dean of men at ^Northwestern university last spring, Professor H. S. Philbrick, professor of mechanical engineering, Northwestern University School of En- gineering, has been appointed acting dean of men by President Walter Dill Scott. Professor Wilson has undergone a slight physical hreakdown and his friends hope he will materially improve during the next ^few weeks. Professor Philbrick, who has been appointed acting dean of men, is chairman of the university board of student activities and is well-known nd.popular among the students on the Evanston campus. â- i The dean of men at Northwestern uni- ersity has. direct supervision. over the _aen studem*, on the Evanston campus and is expected, to guide them in all their, activities, with special reference to the entire abolition of hazing and class-rushes. With this .week's issue of* The Lake Shore News begins a unique "Boost Your Community Merchants" campaign, con- ducted by fifty-five merchants, and which will run in a portion of the paper for twelve weeks. The campaign is princi- pally designed to acquaint Wilmette resi- dents with the buying possibilities in their own community through the means of studied education "The idefr is an excellent oneT^saidT a prominent local merchant. "The cam- paign will bring the attention of the community to the many advantages to be found in patronizing their .neighbor- hood merchants." ° Discuss Plan In discussing the campaign more thoroughly, he said: "All we have .to do is to trace the dollar bill here. When it is spent here it goes to the merchant and he in turn uses it for rent and other expenditures, and the landlord in turn spends it with the butcher, the druggist, and so on. If the people could follow such a dollar bill around in its travels, they would never hesitate in doing their buyiflfHin their neighborhood. The merchants need this support, and above all the community benefits by it. Such a liberal education- al campaign will have a far-reaching effect and make the community better and greater for it. "Once the residents here realize where their interests He, one need not specu- late as to the results of this campaign. However, it is up to the individual firms to keep the public acquainted with the line of goods and service they are pre- pared to render by giving it the neces- sary publicity. In other words, let us get better acquainted in our business and personal relations, and "above all else, let us know our community."
