ERA SOPRANO TSUNDAYCLUB rrence Macbeth Secured To Sing In Wilmette This Sunday RS. WINTER SPEAKS WILMETTE LIFE, FRIDAY, JANUARY 4, 1924 ead of Women's Clubs to Give Address One of the most notable programs ver planned for the Wilmette Sunday lub will be offered Sunday, January 9, When Miss Florence Macbeth, colora- tura of the Chicago Civic Opera com- pany and conceded to be America's leading soprano, will sing, and Mrs. Thomas G. Winter, president of the General Federation of Women's clubs of America will speak. Arrangements are being made to pro- vide extra seating space in the auditor- ium of the First Congregational church so that a large audience can be accom- modated with comfort. It is felt cer- tain that Sunday Evening club atten- dance records will be shattered upon this occasion. Miss Macbeth has long been a favor- ite among musicians throughout Amer- ica and her coming to Wilmette is a real event and a distinct achievement for the Executive committee of the club. She is one of the most prominent figures in the field of music and is a favorite of the concert stage as well as opera. Mrs. Winter is an author of note and and an excellent speaker. She is a leader of nation-wide) reputation and constantly in demand for speaking en- gagements. The Wilmette Sunday Eve- ning club considers itself most fortun- ate in securing her for this unusual pro- gram. Her subject will be, "This Changing World," a theme that prom- ises much of interest for Sunday club patrons. Garages Work Overtime As Cold Snap Aftermath Every garage and service station in the village was operating "full blast" on New Year's day as the result of the arctic wave that swept over this section on New Year's Eve. At most garages one found long lines of "disabled" cars awaiting their turn to get a re-tuning. Owners of the well known "open air garages" were found scurrying about the village early Tuesday to find a warm place for their machines. Towing crews were called out more frequently than the Insurance patrol. Old man winter played the motoring public a rather mean trick.
