The flag in the Village Hall Triangle was at half mast early this week and the Village Hall offices were closed all day Tuesday as Wilmette did honor to Police Magistrate and Village Collector, Edmond P. Dunshee, who died suddenly last Saturday on a train while bound for Camp Grant to visit his son, Sergeant Robert Dunshee.

Magistrate Dunshee, who was one of Wilmette's pioneers and a leading figure in the Village during the past 30 years, was buried at Charles City, Iowa, in the family plot, on Wednesday. Funeral services were conducted by Reverend Roy E. Bowers at 2 o'clock, Tuesday afternoon, at the Wilmette Congregational Church where hundreds of Wilmette and north shore residents paid honor to the dead official. The remains, accompanied by members of hte family, were taken to Charles City, Iowa, immediately after the services.

Suffered Attack 2 Weeks Ago
Magistrate Dunshee was taken seriously ill two weeks ago, suffering a slight heart attack. He had gone to Rockford against the orders of his physician, it was said, to see his son before he left the camp for overseas duty. The shock of the trip was too much for the weakened man and he collapsed as the train was approaching the army cantonment.

A Pioneer of North Shore
Magistrate Dunshee was born 63 [unclear] years ago near Fox Lake, Illinois. He came to Chicago and Wilmette with his family early in the eighties and lived here continuously, with the exception of a few years when he resided for a time in Fort Wayne, Indiana, and then in Charles City, Iowa.

Before taking up official life he had been associated with real estate and other concerns in Chicago.

"Fair and Square" Man
The universal tribute to Magistrate Dunshee was that he was "fair and square" and a gentleman of the first order. He commanded the respect of all who came in contact with him in his capacity as Justice and Magistrate and his work as a Village official won for him the reputation as being one of the most reliable and competent men ever to hold an important office in the Village Hall.

He is survived by two daughters, Esther and marion, and one son, Sergeant Robert Dunshee of Camp Grant. His wife and a daughter died several years ago and are buried at Charles City, Iowa.
