George and Marie (nee Guzman) Schmitz of Crest Hill., Ill., former residents of Wilmette, celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary May 3. The couple married May 3, 1947, at St. Peter Roman Catholic Church in Stevens Point, Wis. George worked for Pioneer Press for 29 years, retiring in 1989. Marie retired from Avoca School District. They are the parents of three sons, James (Terry) of Aurora, Colorado, the late Robert, and Michael (Kay) of Joliet. The couple lived in Wilmette until 2002 when they moved to Willow Falls, an active adult community in Crest HIll.
