To the Voters of Wilmette: We wish to call attention to the proposition to be submitted to the voters at the village election on Tuesday next, to issues bonds to the amount of $15,000.00 for the purpose of obtaining funds to erect a new village hall. That Wilmete needs a new village hall must be apparent to everyone who has had occasion to visit the present building. This building was erected in 1890, when the population was about 1,000. At that time there was neighter a paved street nor a cement sidewalk in Wilmette. The village has since had a phenomenal growth, the population being now 6,000, fully seventy-five percent of all streets have been paved, and nearly all sidewalks have been laid. There has been a corresponding increase in the public business, which, however, is transacted in the same small office which barely served when the town was little more than a flag station, and persons having business in the village hall were few and far between. It is proposed to erect a building large enough to meet th epublic needs for many years to come, and one that will be of pleasing architectural design. The increase in taxation to meet principal and interest will be slight. The bonds whill mature at the rate of $2,500.00 per annum, beginning in 1921. The interest rate will be 4.5% per annum. This means that, for the purpose of meeting the interst, the tax levy, until the maturity of the first installment of principal in 1921, will be only six cents on each $100.00 of assessed valuation. When the first installment of principal matures, the tax levy will be further increased about twenty-three cents on each $100.00 of assessed valuation continuing for six years until the bonds are paid. We believe that it is to the interest of every resident that a new building be erected, and to that end we urge you to vote "YES" on the proposition. Signed John D. Couffer, D. R. Anderson, H. M. Note: The editor had a statement to make this week on the above subject but as space is at a premium he gladly substitutes the letter of the village president and trustees. Editor
