- Services for John G. Friend, retired chairman of the board of NBD Chicago Bank, were held Monday at North Shore Congregation Israel. Mr. Friend died Oct. 2, 1992, in Northwestern Memorial Hospital. Mr. Friend, a resident of Winnetka and Ranch Mirage, Calif., was 58 years old. A Chicago native, Mr. Friend first worked for Greenebaum Tanning Co. in Chicago, a company founded by his grandfather, Jonas Greenebaum. Survivors include his wife, Abby Mandel Friend; two daughters, Pam Szokol and Holly; two sons, Bill and Scott; his parents, Kurt and Lorayne Friend; a brother, Ken; and a granddaughter Kimberly.
