William A. Burgess, 1708 Highland avenue, was seized with a heart stroke while walking on Central avenue at Wilmette avenue last Saturday afternoon and died a short time later in the Snider-Cazel's drug store, where he had been taken. Ernest Cazel noticed Mr. Burgess stagger and nearly fall to the sidewalk. He rushed to his assistance and helped him into the store. Dr. W. W. Hawkins and Dr. M. R. Barker [Milton Reed Barker] were summoned. Mr. Burgess died about 45 minutes after the attack.
Mr. Burgess was 60 years old and died on his birthday. He had been a resident of the village for the past three years. Funeral services were held Thursday afternoon from the home, the Rev. Hubert Carleton, of St. Augustine's church, officiating. Burial was at Memorial Park cemetery, where the Evanston lodge I. O. O. F., of which Mr. Burgess was a member, conducted services.
Mr. Burgess is survived by his widow, two sons, William E. and George T. Burgess; a daughter, Mrs. H. G. Salter, two brothers and one sister. He was well known in Wilmette and Evanston and was a member of the Evanston lodge of the Knights of Pythias and of the Odd Fellows.
