Interviews with eleven citizens with the longest continuous residence in New Trier Township. All except Mrs. W. D. Ketchum were born in the township and lived here their whole lives. Names include the following:

Dennis S. Kloepfer, age 87, 953 Spruce street, Winnetka, was born on May 18, 1952 on a New Trier farm contained in Section 29. He married Laura Wilhelm on November 26, 1974. Kloepfer's parents came to America in 1840, settlling in Winnetka. He is the father of Postmaster Arthur M. Kloepfer.

Mrs. Magdalene Schildgen Selzer, age 85, 633 Park avenue, Wilmette, was born on December 3, 1953. She married Mathias Selzer on April 21, 1874.

Mrs. Maria Schoenborn Steffens, age 83, 1515 Wilmette avenue, Wilmette, was born October 31, 1956 in a log house on the spot where she now lives. She married Peter Steffens on January 11, 1876. Eight of her nine children, all married, live on the same block where she still has her home.

Katherine Schindler Schramm, age 82, 463 Park avenue, Glencoe, was born on October 8, 1856. Her father was Michael Schindler. She was married May 10, 1882 to Frank X. Schramm, whose father Mathias operated the first tavern between Chicago and Milwaukee.

Joseph Engels, age 79, 1939 Birchwood avenue, Wilmette, was born on July 22, 1860 at 2403 Glenview road in the house now occupied by his nephew, Anton Engels. He married Margaret Wilhelm on November 11, 1884.

Frank Alles, age 78, 1636 Lake avenue, Wilmette, was born August 5, 1861. His father had immigrated from Germany in 1839. On May 5, 1885 he married Barbara Schildgen. Mrs. Alles died last January. He is a cousin of Frank Alles, 1614 Wilmette Avenue, Wilmette's only surviving veteran of the Civil War.

Phillip Hoffmann, age 76, 512 Ridge road, Wilmette, was born in 1863 in the old Hoffmann homestead 204 Ridge Road.

Henry Hartmann, age 71, 537 Illinois road, Wilmette, was born on October 1, 1867 in the same house in which he now lives. He was married on November 15, 1896 to Barbara Barg. Their five children, all married, now live in closely adjacent homes on the family property.

Peter Blasius, age 70, 385 Birch street, Winnetka, was born June 22, 1968. He married Mary Berry November 10, 1897.

Mary B. Prouty, 681 Willow road, Winnetka, was born on October 29, 1974 at what is now 630 Willow Road. Mrs. Prouty's mother passed through the Chicago fire of 1871 and personally knew Mrs. O'Leary.

Mrs. Helen R. Ketchum, 1054 Linden avenue, was born in Troy, N.Y., on November 4, 1850, and will soon be 89 years old. She was married in Chicago on October 20, 1972 to William Dennison Ketchum, and 52 years ago they moved to Wilmette. photographs
