- Federation of Clubs of the Tenth Congressional district of Illinois met Thursday, January 24, in the Woman's club house in Evanston. President Mrs. M. K. Northam. Report of the Marcy WOman's Christian Temperance Union stating they were involving the poor and the colored people of Evanston in making hospital garments, knitting and that children had made gun wipes. The degate of the Children's Aid Society told of the 1200 homeless and orphaned children being cared for in this country. Mrs. Prouty gave a report of the Winnetka Woman's Club which has opened their clubhouse to sailors on Saturdays. Mrs. Plummer, speaker from the C. of N. D., gave a talk saying women should not lose their individuality by joining everything that came along. All women's clubs need not do the same things for the war effort. Mrs. A. Moore, spoke of the Child Labor Law, and the need to keep children in school. Chicago is trying a scheme whereby people of means will give a scholarship of $150 to $200 a year to children forced to leave school at 14 to work. Miss A. G. Grandy spoke on voices and their training for public speaking. Rev. R. I. Smith gave an address about the "sprit of the New Citizenship." He described his education, age, experience on the platform, and stated that he is married and has a son, age 4. Dr. Joseph Yarros gave a talk on "dry Chicago."
There will be an all-day sewing meeting of the Catholic Woman's Club on Friday at the home of Mrs. Carl Schroeder, 711 Park avenue.
