- Of the 102 counties represented, 83 are organized; all work for the Red Cross, knit and have canning clubs and cooking demonstrations. Another county has organized the ILlinois Working Reserve Army. Girls enroll to work for farmers picking, packing and canning fruit and vegetables. Women make skimmed ilk into cheese. School children raised three and one-half car loads of seed corn, oats and wheat. Last years seed corn crop was damaged by early frost, so the seed corn is needful.
Miss Minne Ahrens of the Red Cross service, also Mrs. Hefferan, made a plea for graduates of high school to train as nurses. Mr. Henry Wheeler, Federal Food Administrator of Illinois, urged citizens to conserve food. Mr. Marquis Eaton, Chairman Chicago Chapter of the Red Cross warned against dupliction of effort. - Date of Publication
