- Jesse Gamoran, a seventh-grader at Wilmette Junior High School has undertaken a social action project in conjunction with his Bar Mitzvah preparation. It concerns the allocation of tax funds to educate Illinois' students. He has written to newspaper editors, and state lawmakers calling for a redistribution of citizens' property tax dollars so that impoverished communities are awarded an equal share of tax funds for education. His Bar Mitzvah guests will be asked to make donations of school supplies to needy Waukegan students.
Winnetka resident Bill Gunlicks has helped Camp Manito-wish YMCA raise $3.1 million as co-chair of the Preserving Our Heritage capital campaign. Todd Allen of Wilmette and David Ullrich of CHicagoalso supported the campaign. - Date of Publication
