More than 100 workmen now employed on Wilmette section; Ditch is completed to Washington Ave.; Cave-ins near the outlet held work in check for first three weeks; residents must endure smoke nuisance

Most of the workers on the job are foreigners with most being Italian. All the workers belong to unions. The common laborer receives $3.20 a day, while the concrete workers and mixers in the ditch receive $4.30 per day.
