- Notes
- In at least two recent cases, a mysterious visitor lit candles in Wilmette churches when no one was around, and in one of those incidents, the Fire Department was called to keep the church from burning down. Jan. 9 First Presbyterian Church, 600 Ninth St., suffered heavy smoke damage from a fire caused by a candle set inside a wreath that had set the wreath aflame. The church sent e-mails to other Wilmette churches warning them about the incident. That led to St. John's Lutheran Church, 1235 Wilmette Av., filing a police report about a similar incident the evening of Jan. 8.
