Marie Murphy School student newspaper, The Voice of the Viking, was submitted to the American Scholastic Press Association to be evaluated. Following are the Marie Murphy School staff and students involved with The Voice of the Viking student newspaper: advisors Kris Toenjes and Shannon Wright; eighth-grade staff Hannah Heyworth (editor), Victoria McCurrie (editor), Jenny Lee, Lori Resnik, Alice Chen and Kerrin Auh; seventh-grade staff Eva Koronis, Nabil Rehmatullah, Dina Menegas and Connie Gong; and sixth-grade staff Kendall Witaszek (editor), Logan Mounts, Morgan Flynn, Noah Mayster, Drew Marshke, James Olk, Christopher Perrin, Moe Weiner, Susy Gutierrez, Marion Lewis, Shannon He, Kristina Kim, Zach Urisman, Hannah Altman, Adam Schwartz, Kathryn Merikoski, Jenna Scaccia, Shane Kjellenberg and Adam Choi.
• A group of three Marie Murphy School eighth-graders -- Jenny Lee, Susan Chun and Melissa Murrin -- recently received first place at the middle-school level for their Public Service Announcement submission to a contest hosted by the Solid Waste Agency of Northern Cook County.
• One morning next week, Avoca West Elementary School's first-graders will be going on a field trip to the Chicago Botanic Garden in Glencoe. - Date of Publication
