- Awaited engineering report on the sand filtration proposition was not available at the meeting. The mayor announced and secured approval of several special poice appointments. The police committee suggested cutting the fine assessed against Mr. shor for violation of a building ordinance, but the mayor doubted the city council had authority to reduce a fine imposed by a police magistrate. The name of Stanley avenue was changed to Woodbine avenue. Alderman Knapp reported that the break in the water intake pipe had been repaired. Alderman Topliff for the police committee, announced that provision has been made for two policemen to be on duty at the lake front from 10 a.m to 10 p.m. Mr. Topliff suggest a request to open a private beach at Hamlin street be denied. Alderman Smart asked for a meeting of the street committee to improve the street south of Calvary cemetery. Alderman Wallace asked for a meeting of the railway committee when the matter of the new franchise for the street car company was discussed with the corporation counsel.
