Rendell rules in sudden death

- Winnetka's Brittany Rendell and Glenview's Chelsea Michalek took their sudden-death battle an extra five holes. Rendell took top prize for girls during the IJGA-CDGA Junior Amateur July 9 at Balmoral Woods Country Club in Crete.
Wilmette's Katy O'Malley was also tied at 77 with Rendell and Michalek after the first round. However O'Malley shot an 83 on the second day and wound up sixth at 160. Winnetka's Kristin Wright tied for eighth at 163.
On the boys' side, the closest local finisher was Glenview's Quinlan Prchal, who wound up in a four-way tie for fourth. Winnetka's Michael Hermanson was ninth at 228.
Chick Evans Qualifier
After taking fourth at Balmoral Woods, Hermanson the next day led the 31-player qualifying field for the Chick Evans Junior Amateur at Countryside Golf Club in Mundelein. Julius Leterman of Northbrook was in a nine-way tie for fourth with a 2-over round of 74. One stroke back in the qualifying field was Glenview's Dex Reese.
National Junior Golf Championships Nora Lucas of Glenview won the A division Long Driving Contest, but both Lucas and the other area entrant, Brittany Rendell of Winnetka, fell short of reaching the championship flight at the 82nd annual National Junior Golf Championships sponsored by the Women's Western Golf Association at Knollwood Country Club in Granger, Ind.
Monday's regional at Deerpath Golf Course in Lake Forest found Glenview's Jay Binstein and Northfield's David Berlinghof both in a four-way deadlock for seventh. Glenview's James Cho placed fourth in the regional for Junior Boys at Plum Tree National.
Omari Whitmore of Evanston tied for third among Junior Boys during Monday's 13th annual Kellman Memorial Open at the Deerfield Golf Club. Finishing as part of a seven-way tie for 10th at 78 were Jonathan Blake and Thomas Errath, both of Winnetka.
In the Junior Girls competition, Winnetka's Lisa Nations tied for third. Caroline Kenter of Winnetka was sixth (82), followed by Wilmette's Katy O'Malley in seventh (83) and Winnetka's Elizabeth Szokol and Molly Hulseman both tied for eighth (84).
In the Senior Boys division, Wilmette's Alex Santostefano, Winnetka's Alexander Truglio, Evanston's Teddy Golden and Northbrook's Bret Carroll were all part of a four-way tie for sixth. Michael Peters of Evanston was one stroke back in 10th. Alice Kang of Northbrook took third in Senior Girls with an 81.
Youth Development Program
At Nickol Knoll Golf Course July 7, Winnetka's Bennett Cotten tied for top honors in the boys 6-9 nine-hole field. Michael Adler, also of Winnetka took seventh while Glencoe's David Tigerman came in 10th. In the nine-hole competition for girls 6-9, Skokie's Amanda Lee took first. The following day at Arlington Lakes Golf Course, Graham Kenter of Winnetka took top honors in the boys 12-13 age group. Drew Langan of Winnetka and Northbrook's Jonathan Goldstein tied for seventh. At the Glenview National 9 July 9, Orion Yamat of Niles took top honors for boys 10-11. Jack Junge of Winnetka was in seventh. In the nine-hole event for boys 10-11, William Seaman of Winnetka tied for first. Northbrook's Luke Oberholtzer tied for third and Brooks Whitlock was sixth. Ashton Rothstein of Glenview (46) tied for seventh and Winnetka's Conor North (47) was 10th. In the 18-hole competition for girls 10-11, Glenview's Sarah Choate shot a 92 to take sixth. Boys 12-13 had an 18-hole event at Broken Arrow Golf Course in Lockport last Thursday. Winnetka's Austin Rendell tied for fourth. Drew Langan and Ian Wright, also of Winnetka, came in seventh (80) and eighth (81), respectively.
