- Cellist Gabriel Cabezas, 15, of Wilmette was presented with the 2008 Wilmette Fine Arts Recognition Award May 18 at the Wilmette Fine Arts Commission's Spring Recital, held at the Wilmette Recreation Center.
Performing with him on the recital were violinists Samantha Bennett of Evanston, Clayton Penrose-Whitmore of Evanston, and Herah Kim of Glenview, as well as violists Santiago Osorio of Highland Park, Matthew Lipman of University Park and cellist Benjamin Lash of Evanston.
Cabezas is the first prize winner of the 2008 Chicago Symphony Orchestra Youth Auditions and will make his CSO debut this November. Other awards and scheduled performances.
Charlotte Adelman and Bernard Schwartz, both of Wilmette, were recognized by Ducks Unlimited at a dedication ceremony for the Mola Prairie and Wetland Preserve July 2. The preserve is located at Midewin National Tallgrass Prairie near Joliet.
Jian Cao of Wilmette, a professor of engineering at Northwestern University, has been named a fellow of the American Society of Mechanical Engineers. - Date of Publication
