New Trier's four sororities have of their own accord taken such action a will place them on a par, not only with the Evanston high school, which has recently taken like action, but with such colleges as Wellesley, Mount Holyoke and others, where sororities were practically disbanded several years ago.
The decision of the sororities is as follows:
The Zetas, which is a national sorority, will initiate no more high school students except those who are already pledged. Because of the fact that they are a national sorority, they are not ready to say that they will disband.
The Chi Sigmas have a few students pledged now who will be initiated, but they will pledge no more and will cease to exist at the end of hte year.
A written statement has been placed in the hands of the school authorities by the Kappa Sigma Psis which states that this sorority has been disbanded.
The Thetas, who as yet have taken no action, state theat they are ready to do so.
This altruistic action, on the part of these societies, has not come without the careful co-operation of the faculty, chiefly, with that of Principal Brown and Miss Raymond of the history department
The disbanding of these societies will mark a new era in the life of New Trier. It marks a new democracy, an unselfishness, of which the community and school may well feel proud. While it may mean an increase in th cost of running the school (for the students have been promised [unclear] to take the place of their former meetings) the faculty feel that this is [illegible] in comparison to what has been [unclear]- Featured Link
