The regular meeting of the village board was held last Tuesday evening. Attorney Jackson made a verbal report regarding the regulating of sign boards in the village. He cited several cases where other cities had been unable to regulate this nuisance and gave it as his opinion that the best solution of the problem would be to pass an ordinance and then let the owners of the sign boards test its legality through the courts. The matter was referred back to the attorney for his written report.
Some time ago the question of who should be given the authority to call out the Evanston fire department in case of emergency was taken up by the board. Heretofore it was possible for anyone so minded to call them to Wilmette, but Tuesday night the board ordered that they be notified that orders from others than the chief of the fire department, the driver or the captain should be ignored.
A communication from othe chief of the Wilmette fire department was read stating that the bell tower was in bad condition and that it was dangerous to use it. Trustee Schmidt made a motion, which carried, that the fire committee be instructed to order the necessary repairs made.- Featured Link
