District 37 School Board plans to ask voters to approve a tax increase during the April 7, 2009 election. The referendum proposal is the first time in more than 30 years that the district asks voters for a tax increase for routine operations. In 2004, Avoca voters approved a $3.2 million bond sale for building improvements and technology. The incrase would add between $165 and $179 to the tax bill for every $5,000 in property taxes the homeowner is currently paying.
