Description
Full Text

Any fear that a smallpox epidemic might be experienced in Wilmette because a mistake was made in the diagnosis of the case of the dread disease in the home of Dougall McDougall, 218 Tenth street, with Mr. McDougall the victim, has been dispelled. Mr. McDougall is rapidly recovering and is able to eat like a harvest hand. In a telephone communication in the Lake Shore News Mrs. McDougall stated that all traces of the disease had about disappeared.
No other members of the McDougall family or other persons who were exposed, have manifested any symptoms of the disease and it is not thought that there is any danger now of its spreading.
The case has caused much talk about the village and many persons have openly declared themselves because an error was made in the diagnosis of the disease. Mr. and Mrs. McDougall have the sympathy of the community and have earned commendation for the earnest co-operation they have manifested in aiding the health authorities in checking a possible spread of the diisease.
There was a false report circulated in Wilmette the first of the week that an epidemic of diptheria prevailed here. Advice from Health Commissioner Moore is that only four new cases of diptheria have been quarantined since April 6. Only five new cases of scarlet fever have been reported since April 1 also.
Following the story given residents of Wilmette first by the Lake Shore News last Thursday, many physicians enjoyed a rushing business in vaccination.
