One of the most interesting of the recent weddings in the eyes of the young people of Wilmette is that of Miss Olive Skelton, the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. John L. Skelton to Clifford L. Hubbard, son of Mr. and Mrs. H. R. Hubbard of Rock Island, which takes place Saturday evening at 5:30 at the home of the bride, The Rev. T. K. Gale officiating. The bride's gown is of white charmeuse andChantilly lace, with orange blossoms. Miss Marion Perkins, the maid of honor, will wear pink, the color scheme for the wedding being pink and white. Mr. Hubbard's attendant is Mr. George Dyson [unclear] of Madison. The eight ribbon bearers, who will e dressed in gowns of white lace, are the Misses Lois and Marion Hubbrd, Helen and Jeanette [unclear], Louise Lloyd, Alwillah Langdon, Laura Barter and Julia Pitkin. The wedding march will be played by Miss Mildred Lesley. The plans for the wedding trip are not disclosed. Mr. and Mrs. Hubbard will be at home at 1014 Sixteenth street, Rock Island, after July 1. Miss Skelton will be remembered in Wilmette for her prominence in social activities, as well as in her chosen field of Kindergarten and settlement work.
Another wedding of interest last week took place Thursday, April 30, in Galena, Illinois, at the home of Mr. and Mrs. George Schneider when Miss Helen Schneider and Dr. M. C. Hecht of Wilmette were married. Mrs. S. T. Hecht, the doctor's mother, and his sister, Mrs. H. Wots, were guests from Wilmette. Dr. and Mrs. Hecht are spending several weeks in Asheville, N.C., and will be at home at Hill street after fifteenth of May.
A number of affairs have taken place during the past week in honor of Miss Olive Skelton. On Tuesday of last week Miss Alwillah Langdon gave a miscellaneous shower. On Thursday Miss Hazel Pierson entertained ten young women at luncheon in honor of Miss Skelton and Miss Marion Perkins, whose wedding to Mr. Glen Gemmil takes place the month of June. On Saturday a bridge party was given for Miss Skelton by three of her associates in kindergarten work: Misses Laura Bader [Barter?], Mildred Lesley and Julia Pitkin, at the [unclear] Tea Room in Edgewater. Miss Louise Lloyd was hostess at a miscellaneous shower Tuesday afternoon. Mrs. J. B. Olwin, an aunt of Miss Skelton, entertained the ten young women of the bridal party at luncheon Wednesday.
Mrs. F. A. Wilson entertained ten of her girlhood friends, who are now residing in Chicago and its suburbs Wednesday of last week.
The [unclear] club has [unclear] invitations to a dance which will be given Saturday evening, May 16, in Jones Hall.
A dinner for the workers in the Congregational Church will be given next Wednesday evening at 6:30 o'clock in the church dining room.
Mrs. Curtis Burnes and Mrs. Frank Flanner of Evanston and Mrs. Sanford [unclear] of Highland Park were guests of Mrs. E. P. Fatch at luncheon and card party given at the Ouilmette Countrty Club Wednesday afternoon.
Mrs. Willard H. Thayer, 514 Washington avenue, entertained her card [illegible] Thursday afternoon. Mrs. Walter [illegible] was the winner of the first prize.
The Woman's Home Missionary Society of the Wilmette M. E. Church met in the church Tuesday afternoon. Mrs. C. C. Spencer, president of the northern district, was the principal speaker of the afternoon.
The May party given by the Cozy Corner circle Friday was an exceedingly pretty entertainment. The two church club rooms contained large quantities of the spring flowers. The larger room in which the program was given was decorated in yellow and green, and in the smaller room each of the refreshment tables was decorated with a different variety of the spring wild flowers, violets, [illegible]. Miss Edwards, the organist, furnished a musical program, assisted by five of her pupils from hicago, and Miss Helen Pope gave several readings. About seventy people attended the May party, which was planned as a social affair, rather than an effort to raise money, as only a slight charge was made to defray expenses.
Mrs. Sherman also gave some of her delightful readings Thursday afternoon at the card party given by Mrs. Wallace Kerr for Mrs. Foster Branson [unclear] who has recently returned to Wilmette after spending a year in Ashton, Kansas. Mrs. Sherman read "The Song of Spring," "Mary Jane" and "Mammy's Melodies."
The Sphinx Club gave an informal dance at the Ouilmette Country Club Friday evening.
Mrs. P. [?] A. Meyers and Mrs. W. B. Paulson will entertain the card club at the home of Mrs. Paulson, 717 Washington avenue, this afternoon.
Mrs. J. B Hoth, [unclear] Forest avenue, entertained several ladies at luncheon and bridge Tuesday.
Mrs. Ernest C. Cazel, 1055 Linden avenue, entertained several friends Wednesday evening at an Old Cash [illegible] party.
Mrs. [illegible] entertained at luncheon Tuesday.
Mr. and Mrs. Frank E. Robinson, 715 Linden avenue, will entertain the Idle Hour Club Saturday evening.
Mrs. Charles H. Brethold, 1102 Central avenue, entertained several ladies at five hundred Saturday afternoon.
Miss Louise Lloyd, 714 Sheridan road, entertained several young ladies at a miscellaneous shower for Miss Olive Skelton Tuesday.
Mrs. Foster Branson 1119 Lake avenue, was hostess at a luncheon for several friends in her home Wednesday afternoon.- Featured Link
