Notes
Walgreens winners: The week between Christmas and New Years, when everyone else was lolling around, a total of 193 young musicians were taking part in the Midwest Young Artists 13th annual Walgreens Concerto Competition at the MYA Center in Fort Sheridan. Contestants came from Los Altos, Calif. to Halifax, Nova Scotia, but three of the four winners were from closer to home. The winners were: violinist Emily Jones of Winnetka, an eighth grader and student of Desiree Ruhstrat; violinist Tylee Lin of Lake Forest, high school junior and student of Gerardo Ribeiro; cellist Johannes Gray of Wilmette, sixth grader and student of Gilda Barston and Hans Jensen, and cellist Emma Bobbs of Ohio, 12th grader and student of Melissa Kraut. You can hear Jones, Lin and Gray when they play with the MYA orchestra Feb. 22 at Pick-Staiger Concert Hall in Evanston.
