Baseball "bugs" from Wilmette and other north shore towns, several hundred of them, attended the opening of Weeghman's fine north side baseball park last Thursday afternoon and watched Tinker's [illegible] trounce [unclear] the Kansas City Federal team to the tune of 8 to 1 [unclear]. It was a demonstration which stands without a parallel in the history of baseball in Chicago, with more than 22,000 spectators crowding every nook and corner of the big grandstand, bleachers and even on special seats placed in the field, cheering all the while that special exercises marked the opening of the new park.
It is assured that the Federal league will be given the hearty support of baseball enthusiasts from all of the north shore towns. In fact, they have been hungry for many years for a north side ball park in Chicago. No longer will be forced to travel many miles to the south side and west side ball parks to enjoy witnessing the national pastime.
All that is necessary now to retain this loyalty on the part of the north shore fans is the deliverance of gilt-edged baseball and from the start which has been made, it is felt that a high standard will be maintained in this regard.
