Notes
Wilmette officials say structural flaws in public safety pensions in Illinois are to blame for the village's escalating pension costs, paid from local property taxes. The village has more than doubled its contributions to the police and fire pension funds since 2004, but the unfunded liability has continued to grow. The Village has joined the Pension Fairness for Illinois Communities, a coalition of municipalities working to negotiate a paneion reform package to slow the growth in costs.
