Notes
The Jumping Health and Fitness Food Drive will take place Monday through April 16. Today the students will participate in the actual jumping event where they will be attempting to surpass the last all school jump event total of 37,000 plus jumps (spring 2008). Also during this week, the Central physical education department will be hosting a food drive to benefit a local food pantry.
Because of parent/teacher conferences, children in first through fourth grades will be released at 12:15 p.m. today (April 15). School will not be in session Friday for additional parent/teacher conferences and teacher professional development.
The third-grade class will experience "Fire in Boomtown" Monday. Performers Amy Lowe and Megan Wells will combine music, commentary, theater and history to recount the story of the Great Chicago Fire of 1871.
Earth Week will kick off Monday with the following highlights: Monday -- Students are encouraged to walk, scooter, or ride their bikes to school each day. Tuesday -- There will be an Earth Week assembly. New trees will be planted on school grounds. Wednesday -- There will be a recycling relay. April 22 (Earth Day) -- Students are encouraged to wear green, blue, or brown to celebrate the colors of the earth. April 23 -- The last day of Earth Week is a waste-free lunch day and the rain date for tree planting. Recycling containers will be available in the lobby all week to collect old electronic devices. An orientation is scheduled from 6:30-7:30 p.m. Tuesday at Highcrest for Central parents of students moving on to Highcrest next year. An orientation meeting also is scheduled from 6:30-7:30 p.m. April 22 at Central for parents of incoming Central kindergarten students. Registration is under way for 2010-2011 kindergarten classes. The Central School Store is a popular and fun volunteer opportunity for parents. Those interested in volunteering may contact Nancy Hoying. The Yearbook Committee has now completed the photo collection submission process.
