Pfc. Samuel Mansfield Cherry, 21, son of Winnetka Village trustee Walter L. Cherry, was among 37 members of the U.S. Army's 56th Artillery Brigade who were killed Aug. 19 when a helicopter exploded and crashed near Pegnitz, West Germany. Survivors include his parents, of 848 Tower Rd., Winnetka; a sister Catherine, at home; two brothers, Walter Jr. of Evanston and Peter of Menlo Park, Cal.; and a grandmother, Mrs. Roger K. Baller of Winnetka.
