When William B. Miller, colored, 626 Grove street, who some years ago was a member of the Evanston police department and for the past ten years has been private night watchman for residents living along the lake shore, failed to come home at the usual hour Tuesday, his wife and son started out to look for him. After hunting for two hours they found the man dead on the front porch of 1960 Sheridan road. It is thought heart trouble was the cause of his sudden death. In October, 1895, Miller joined the local police department. Three years later he resigned and shortly after took the position as private watchman for the residents in the vicinity of the lake front. During his years of service he always reached his home about five o'clock in the morning. When he failed to appear this morning his wife feared something was wrong and went to look for him. After searching for two hours his lifeless form was found on the porch of one of the houses he was watching. It is evident that Miller had gone to the porch to see if the front door was locked and while on the porch suffered an attack of heart trouble. He was dead when found. Miller was well known about the city, making many friends when he was on the police department. Little was seen of him since he took up the night watchman work. An inquest will be held this afternoon.
