Mrs. W. G. Beyrer, 1022 Lake avenue, is spending the week at Niles, Mich.
Miss Susie Meyer, who has been visiting friends in South Haven, has returned home.
Mrs. Joseph Du Seault and children are spending a few weeks at Chippenee, Wis.
Miss Agnes Collyer, 524 Hill street, returned Friday from a three weeks' visit in Lincoln, Neb.
Miss May Meyer, 835 Park avenue, Wilmette, has gone to South Haven on a two weeks' vacation.
Miss Ruth Lasher of Laurel avenue entertained Miss Helen Chapman of Rockford last week.
Mrs. L. L. Hammitt, 1024 Lake avenue, is visiting her parents at Lisbon, Ia., for three or four weeks.
Miss Florence Brigham of Chicago has been spending several days with her cousin, Miss Mary Barrett.
Mrs. Harold Rowatree and daughter, Margaret, left Monday for several weeks' visit in Kansas City.
Mrs. D. K. Dickinson, 511 Washington avenue, gave a stag dinner for her husband on Saturday evening.
Mrs. A. K. Petrie, who has been spending several days at Round Lake, returned home the first of the week.
Mrs. J. Steffins and daughter, Florence, 1225 Wilmette avenue, enjoyed a boat trip to Waukegan last Tuesday.
Mr. and Mrs. W. D. Matthews of Lake avenue entertained at cards Saturday in honor of Mrs. A. F. Rinder.

Miss Alva Tuerk, 1441 Forest avenue, will give a luncheon Friday, Aug. 30, in honor of Miss Eva Lee of Florence, Colo.
Mr. and Mrs. Jacob B. Greiner, 631 Lake avenue, left last week for a short vacation at their summer home in Topinabee, Mich.
Mr. M. R. Knox, 1617 Lake avenue, who has been confined to his home for some time by illness, is able to be out again.
Mr. and Mrs. John W. May, Miss Katherine Eiden and Mr. Everett proctor took a motorcycle trip to Cedar Lake Sunday.
The paving of Twelfth street, east of the Northwestern tracks, was started the middle of last week, and is rapidly being finished.
Mrs. Walter J. Thrumston of Lake avenue gave a porch party last Wednesday in honor of Mrs. A. F. Rinder, who will locate elsewhere.
Mr. Edmond J. Galitz has recently purchased a new touring car. Mr. Galitz made his first trip Sunday, under the direction of a demonstrator. Mrs. Richard J. Cody and daughters, Dorothy and Catherine, 908 Greenwood avenue, are spending several weeks with relatives at Champaign, Ill.
Miss Clementine Eastman and Miss Helen Roberts left Wednesday for Danville, Ill., where they will spend the week-end as guests of Miss Marion McConnell.
Mr. and Mrs. Joseph Lechner and son, Robert, of Evanston, were the guests of Mrs. Lechner's parents, Mr. and Mrs. Anton May, 1448 Wilmette avenue, last week.
Clark Eastman, son of Mr. and Mrs. O. C. C. Eastman, 412 Central avenue, has recently returned from Idaho, where he has been spending the summer on his uncle's ranch.
Notice is hereby given that all grocery stores will close all day Labor day, Monday, Sept. 2. It is requested that the patrons of our respective stores purchase as many of their staple goods as possible during the early part of this week, in order to receive prompt deliveries on the last days of the week.

Mr. and Mrs. F. L. Joy, 812 Central avenue, left Saturday for Walloon Lake, where they will be the guests of their daughter, Mrs. E. L. Scheidehelm.
William Freeman, son of Mr. and Mrs. William Freeman of Greeley, Colo., and formerly of Wilmette, is the guest of Mr. and Mrs. Louis Clark, Lake avenue.
The Wilmette public schools will open Tuesday, Sept. 3. The rooms have all been redecorated and the playgrounds graded and covered with cinders and fine gravel.
Mr. Louis J. Pierson and son, Leland, Mr. W. D. Armstrong, Dr. C. G. Smith and Bruce Thayer have gone on a two weeks' fishing trip at Lake Lac du Flambeau, Wis.
The children's open air carnival at Ravinia park this afternoon will be the last but one of the special programs which have been given at the park during the summer for the children. The grand march, which will start at 2 o'clock, will be led by the Allendale and Glenwood school bands. Lake Forest will then present the Y. W. C. A. camp fire girls in two dances - "Jumping Jacks" and a "Norwegian Barn Dance." Highland Park and Ravinia will offer two dances - "Maid of the Mist" and a "Matinee Dance" - by juniors of the Y. W. C. A. Winnetka's dances will be "Spring Song" and "Evening Star." Kenilworth, "The Dance of the Flowers," and Lake Bluff, "Japanese Dance" and "Russian Dance." The program will conclude with maneuvers by the Boy Scouts. Miss Jessie Powers will give her program of musical fairy tales Thursday afternoon, Sept. 5.
Mr. and Mrs. A. F. Sterrett of Lake avenue left recently for an extended western trip.
Mrs. William O. Belt and son, Robert, and daughter, Virginia, recently returned from the eastern resorts, where they spent several weeks.
Mr. William E. Hess, 1109 Greenleaf avenue, who has recently undergone a very serious operation at the Evanston hospital, returned to his home on Monday.
Mr. John Couffer left Friday night for Gladstone, Mich., where his family have been for the summer. Mr. Couffer will return next week, accompanied by his family.
Dr. and Mrs. Lester E. Mee, 1027 Greenwood avenue, who have been spending a few weeks at Lake Geneva, returned the first part of last week, and report a very delightful trip.
Miss Alice Shurtleff will leave about Sept. 1 for Henderson, Ky., where she will teach Latin in the Barrett Manual Training high school, one of the largest manual training schools in the state.
Mr. F. A. Buck, 1215 Lake avenue, returned Monday after spending several days in northern Michigan, Mrs. Buck, who accompanied him on this trip, remained there, and expects to visit a few days longer.
Mrs. Charles Dingee and daughters, Margaret and Leonore, returned last Friday from Gladstone, Mich., where they were the guests of Mrs. John D. Couffer at her summer home on Little Bay de Noquet.
The Epworth league of the M. E. church of Wilmette will have a hayrack ride Tuesday evening Sept. 3. They will leave the church at 6 o'clock and drive to a farm west of the village, where they will eat supper, play games and then return home.
Invitations have been issued for the marriage of Miss Helen Lorene Barker, daughter of Dr. and Mrs. Milton Reed Barker, of 707 Washington avenue, to William Magee Raiguel. The wedding will be celebrated Wednesday evening, Sept. 11, at the home of the bride's parents.
Dr. and Mrs. Herbert C. West and Mr. and Mrs. Roy Thompson and Mr. and Mrs. William A. Maynard are the guests of Senator and Mrs. William McLean on their annual motor boat trip this year. The party left Monday for a week's trip down the Illinois river.
The police have been asked to search for M. De Leon, 48 years old, said to be a wealthy lumber contractor from Atlanta, Ga., who disappeared Aug. 9 from the home of Karl D. King, 914 Greenwood avenue, Wilmette. De Leon had in his possession a roll of bills of large denominations. Word of his disappearance was withheld from the police in the belief that he had been called to Saginaw unexpectedly.
A neighborhood picnic was held on the lawn of Mrs. E. J. Palmer, 1635 Lake avenue, Tuesday. The following were present: Mesdames R. J. Burrows, W. D. Matthews, W. C. Reinhold, F. E. Robinson, J. A. Piatt, D. J. Johnstone, M. R. Knox, D. S. Lamb and Calkins of Wilmette, Mrs. Lawrence and Mrs. Terrin of Schermerville, Mrs. Calkins of Chicago and Mrs. Malschaider of Indianapolis. About twenty children romped and frolicked about. Altogether it was a merry party and all enjoyed it immensely.- Featured Link
