- Full Text
Donald Miller, seven year old son of John J. Miller, 1730 Washington Avenue, was injured fatally late Wednesday afternoon, October 9, when he was struck by an automobile as he rode his tricycle across Lake Avenue at the Seventeenth street crossing. He died shortly afterwards at the Evanston hospital. Lawrence McHale, 16, of 1749 Highland avenue, Wilmette, driver of the car, was going west on Lake avenue when the tragedy occurred. He was released on bonds. At the inquest the following day at Weimeskirch's undertaking parlors in Rogers Park a verdict of accidental death was returned but the coroner's jury requested that McHale be forbidden to drive a car until he reaches the age of 21. Another near tragedy of a similar nature occurred Saturday afternoon, October 12, about 12:40 o'clock when Ralph White, six year old son of George E. White, 811 Fifteenth street, Wilmette, was struck by a car driven by Mike Rees of Evanston as he ran out into the street between two parked cars. The boy suffered a broken left leg, broken left arm and body and face bruises. He was rushed to the Evanston hospital by Rees, who was not held.
