Dingee, Nellie Welsted (Died)

Mrs. Nellie Welsted Dingee, 86, pioneer resident of Wilmette, passed away Thursday, May 23, at Chattanooga, Tenn. Mrs. Dingee was taken suddenly ill while motoring home from St. Petersburg, Fla., where she had spent the winter. At her bedside at the time of her death was her daughter, Miss Annie W. Dingee, who had accompanied her. The other four children were enroute to Chattanooga when Mrs. Dingee's death occurred.

Mrs. Dingee and her husband, Samuel M. Dingee, came to Wilmette in 1858, fourteen years before the village was incorporated. Mr. Dingee died in May, 1899.

Mrs. Dingee was one of the two surviving charter members of the Wilmette Parish Methodist Church. The other is Mrs. William Panushka. Mrs. Dingee took part in the cornerstone laying of the new Wilmette Parish Methodist church edifice last fall before going to Florida. She was also one of the charter members of the Wilmette Woman's club.

Surviving her are three sons, Charles S. of Wilmette, Samuel S. of Wausau, Wis., and William W. of Kilbourn, Wis.; two daughters, Annie of Wilmette, and Mrs. L. F. Berry of Oak Park; fifteen grandchildren, and eight great grandchildren.

The funeral services were conducted Monday afternoon at her late residence, 926 Lake avenue, by the Rev. Horace G. Smith, pastor of the Wilmette Parish Methodist church. Burial took place at Rosehill cemetery.
