Peter Steffens, who was born in a log cabin near the present intersection of Central Park and Wilmette avenues 83 years ago, passed away on Monday afternoon at this home, 1515 Wilmette avenue, Wilmette. He had been in ill health for some months. A carpenter by trade, he had been retired from active duties for several years. His widow, who survives, is likewise a nativ eof the community and was born in a former house on the site of their present residence. Funeral services were held this Thursday morning at St. Joseph's church, with burial in St. Joseph's cemetery. Besides his widow, he is survived by nine children: Mrs. Dan Feltman, Mrs. Kate Schopen, Mrs. Emma Boll, Mrs. Barbara Brautigam, Mrs. Frank Zeutschl, Seageant Joseph Steffens of the Wilmette police force, George, John, and Peter Jr. All were present at his bedside at the time of his death.
