- Full Text
The death of Miss Helen Winslow, 20, in an automobile accident near Grand Haven, Mich., early Sunday morning and the disappearance of her brother, Doane, 27, immediately after the accident was reported Monday. The two young people were children of Mr. and Mrs. Arthur D. Winslow, former residents of Wilmette, who moved to an estate on Spring Lake, near Grand Haven, Mich., about six years ago. The family home here was at 606 Washington avenue. There are two other sons, William and Douglas. While residents of Wilmette the family attended the Christian Science church. The reports of the accident state that the brother and sister, who were inseparable companions, according to the father, were returning home from Grand Haven, where they had spent the evening. Doane, who was driving, evidently lost control of the car, and it collided with a telephone pole, turning over three times. Miss Winslow was thrown from the car, striking her head on the pavement and instantly killed. Her brother, who disappeared after the accident, jumped to his death from the ninth floor of a Milwaukee hotel Tuesday night. Helen Winslow was a fomer student in the Wilmette public schools and was a recent graduate of a business college at Muskegon, Mich. Doane attended New Trier High School and was a graduate of the Onarga (Ill.) Military academy, class of 1927. He was interested in forestry, and was to have continued a forestry course at Michigan State university in Lansing this fall. Arthur W. Winslow, the father, is FERA administrator for Ottowa county, Michigan.
