Mrs. Lena Martin, 79, Dies on Friday [heading] Mrs. Lena Emilie Martin, 79 years old, widow of Hugo W. C. Martin, died last Friday at the home of her son-in-law and daughter, Mr. and Mrs. Paul A. Hoffman, 1638 Washington avenue, where she had lived since the family came to Wilmette 17 years ago. Surviving her, besides Mrs. Hoffman, are a son, Victor, and two brothers, Alfred and Arthur Kirchner. Funeral services were held Monday afternoon at the residence, conducted by the Rev. George P. Magill. Burial was in Graceland cemetery. Mrs. Martin was born in Chicago, the daughter of Robert Kirchner, a pioneer planing mill operator, whose mill and home both were destroyed in the great Chicago fire of 1871. She was at that time 15 years old. Mrs. Martin's husband was one of the early Chicago druggists, and was connected with that business for many years. He was a member of the faculty of the Chicago College of Pharmacy, and conducted a retail store at State and Harrison streets. He was instrumental in planning and arranging the drug exhibit at the World's Columbian exposition in 1893, and died shortly thereafter.
