Margaret B. Abeles, formerly of Wilmette, age 76, died May 30 at Villa St. Cyril in Highland Park. She lived at 2525 Thornwood Av. in Wilmette before moving to Deerfield three years ago. Born in Long Beach, N.Y., Mrs. Abeles' grandfather was Henry Ward Beecher, the famed Civil War preacher, and her great, great aunt was Harriet Beecher Stowe, author of "Uncle Tom's Cabin." Mrs. Abeles and her husband, Alfred T., began helping European refugees of World War II in memory of their 21-year-old son, Beecher, who was killed in the 1944 Battle of the Bulge. Mrs. Abeles is survived by her husband, Alfred T.; a son, John H. of Deerfield; six grandchildren; and a brother, Henry Ward Beecher III of Woodland, Cal. [California] Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery in Skokie. Cont. p.73
