- John "Grandpa Jack" Anhalt, 77, died on Sept. 21 at St. Francis Hospital in Evanston. His family were early settlers of the Gross Point area of Wilmette. Mr. Anhalt owned Wilmette Yellow Cab from 1945 to 1964, and then opened a business callled Jack Aahalt Insurance and Realty, which was open from 1963 to 1983. He is survived by his wife, Ruth Keller Anhalt; and three children, Dennis (Pat), Karen Anhalt, and Donna (John) Strake; and five grandchildren, Courtney, Todd and Cameron Anhalt, and Jessica and Ali Straka. Also surviving are his brother and sister, Robert (Dude) Anhalt and Alice (George) Kurkjian.
