- A memorial service will be held at 3 p.m. Saturday in Kenilworth Union Church for Donald Grant Robertson, who had a long career as a candy, restaurant and travel businessman in Evanston and on the North Shore. Mr. Robertson, 84, died Sept. 27 [1975] in San Mateo, Cal. [California] His son and daughter-in-law are Mr. and Mrs. Sanford R. Robertson of Hillsborough, Cal. [California]. He lived at 1500 Sheridan Rd., Wilmette, and was a former resident of Evanston and Winnetka. Mr. Robertson was born in Osborne, Kan. [Kansas], grew up in Chicago and came to Evanston in 1909. His father, David, was an Evanston Alderman and school board member. In 1923 he and his wife, the late Helen Robertson, founded the Ring Ting Candy Stores. The original one was located at 1553 Sherman Av., Evanston. In the 1930s he closed the stores and in 1935 opened Hearthstone House restaurant in Hubbard Woods. Later he co-founded Evanston International Travel Service. He was its vice president at the time of his death. In addition to his son, Mr. Robertson's survivors are three granddaughters and his brother, Paul, who lives in Bradenton, Fla. His wife, Helen, died in 1973.
