- Harry Cumberland died in a Wilmette nursing home Friday, October 23, after a long illness. Born in Chicago 66 years ago, Mr. Cumberland was left an orphan at an early age and adopted by the Thomas Downes family of Wilmette. He married Mary McKean of Evanston in 1904. She preceded him in death last February. Surviving are a daughter, Mrs. Lewis C. Thayer of Evanston; a son, J. Gordon Cumberland of Des Plaines; and two grandaughters, Nancy Ann Cumberland and Mary Lou Thayer. Four brothers also survive, Oliver of Chicago, and John, William, and Joseph, all of Oakland, Calif. Burial was in Memorial Park cemetery.
