- Legislative remap by the Demoratic Party after the 2000 federal census made changes to the 17th House District held since 1996--in its previous incarnation as the 57th House District--by Republican Elizabeth Coulson. Coulson beat Wilmette Trustee Pat Hughes in 2002 by fewer than 700 votes. Coulson's 2006 Democratic challenger, Judith-Rae Ross, announced her intention to seek the seat barely six months ago. She does not have much financial backing from her party.
